History

Edwards has been Canada's leading manufacturer of fire protection systems since 1929. In 1999 Edwards, a division of SPX Canada, acquired Barley Fire Protection. Formed in 1974, Barley was one of the largest fire suppression contractors in Atlantic Canada.

Edwards formed the "Edwards Sprinkler" division in 2001 as part of its mandate to be the "total solution" provider for people and property.

In 2003, Edwards acquired BC based Upper Valley Fire Protection to solidify the market presence of Edwards Sprinkler. In 2004, Edwards acquired Troy Sprinkler Limited, to enhance market presence of Edwards Sprinkler in Ontario.

In 2005, GE purchased Edwards from SPX Corporation to add to the GE Security Canada business.

At that same time, Upper Valley, Barley and Edwards Sprinkler all became part of one legal entity, Troy Sprinkler Limited which also became part of GE Security Canada.

In 2007, members of the Canadian Management Team acquired the Troy Sprinkler business from GE Security Canada, along with 12 Fire Alarm Sales and Service operations in non-metro areas across Canada, becoming a Strategic Partner with GE.
